£10 million education campaign
In 2008 Children in Crisis will be celebrating its 15th Anniversary by launching an ambitious four year campaign to raise an additional £10 million to enable a further 250,000 children in post conflict countries to go to school.
Over the next four years Children in Crisis aims to build 24 new schools, set up teacher training programmes and provide HIV and AIDS education in schools and local communities which have recently suffered violence and conflict. Children in Crisis will begin new work in Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, as well as expanding work in Afghanistan and Sierra Leone.
The campaign will be launched by the charity’s founder and Life President Sarah, the Duchess of York at JP Morgan on 6th May, and will be attended by a number of celebrity ambassadors who have signed up to support the campaign. These include GMTV presenter, Fiona Phillips, actress Rula Lenska, BBC news reporter Hugh Sykes and pop star Laura Critchley.
Speakers will include Sierra Leone’s Chief Electoral Commissioner Dr Christiana Thorpe, BBC News Reporter Hugh Sykes and Children in Crisis’ Trustee and Founding Partner of M&C Saatchi, James Lowther.
There will also be a number of high profile events throughout the year to support the campaign; including a Celebration Ball at Old Billingsgate on 30th October and a Christmas Carol Concert on 2nd December.
