This year Children in Crisis have the privilege of receiving the support of Lee Bates, the Mayor of Tamorth. Here we hear from the Mayor, why and how he's raising money for our work.
"Every year in May a new Mayor is elected for Tamworth selected from the borough councillors elected onto the council and each year a new Mayor gets to choose a charity or charities to raise money for throughout their 12 months in office.
I found out about Children in Crisis following an appearance 18 months ago on the Alan Tichmarsh Show where I met the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson who helped get equipment for a community café project in my Councillor patch. I was so impressed with the Duchess’s kindness and genuine down to earth nature, that I wanted to find out if there was any charity that the Duchess supported.
It was no surprise to find out there were 2 Charities founded by the Duchess, Children in Crisis and the Sarah Ferguson Trust. I then set about finding out more about both charities with a view to see if I could support one of them for my upcoming mayoral year.
As I learnt more about Children in Crisis about its aims and objectives, and the work it has done to date to help so many children in some of the poorest and challenging countries on our planet I just knew this was the charity I wanted to support.
With the help of Children in Crisis we have managed to put together some exciting fund raising events other the next 12 months including.. A fancy dress Litter Pick, Open Days at the Town Hall, A Corporate Golf Day, A ghost tour of Tamworth Castle, A Mayors Ball and many more… "
