ICAP supports Children in Crisis

ICAP

ICAP chose to support Children in Crisis through their Make a Difference Day.  The programme they are funding aims to reduce child mortality and disease in Nangchen County of the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and to provide basic helathcare, particularly for women, with a view to reducing the levels of infant and mother mortality and disease.

The objectives of the programme are:

  • To train 50 young women in hygiene, basic healthcare and midwifery
  • To enable and assist these young women to return to their villages and encourage others to understand and practise basic healthcare

Health Education in Dritog

The programme has been running for a year now and we have heard that the newly trained midwives are providing a vital service to their nomadic communities and 88% of those asking for help have been  women.  Their work is proving to be vital to the healthcare of their communities; when asked, all women said they felt they had been instrumental in saving lives.
