The successful construction of Neegbah Primary School was especially pleasing given the logistical challenges that had to be overcome. All building materials first had to be transported overland from Monrovia to Cestos City, which is a 5 – 7 hour drive on un-tarmacked roads. ), then were painstakingly transported across the river in canoes and finally, carried by hand and on foot to the site by the villagers themselves. It took 15-months to complete.
It has all been worth it – the children now have a robust, sturdy school installed with electrical wiring and sockets so that a multitude of lessons can take place, including evening adult literacy classes. There is even a water pump outside to provide a reliable source of clean water to the school!
The community is very proud, in fact all of us are. This is the result of successful collaboration between the community, us, and our local partners, the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE).
