Koy has over twenty years’ senior experience in the development and environmental sector. He initially trained as a scientist, conducting field research in the tropics and the artic. During his time at Friends of the Earth as their senior tropical rainforest campaigner Koy built bridges with development and human rights organisations. It was this experience that steered him towards the post of Assistant Director at the International Institute for Environment and Development - the organisation that invented the term ‘sustainable development’. Experience gained while providing high-level UN and government advice was put to good use when Koy spent seven years as ActionAid International’s Director of Policy.
Koy’s love of cycling meant that he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to lead the London Cycling Campaign. As its CEO for three years, he managed the world’s largest and most complex urban cycling movement, earning himself a spot in the Evenings Standard’s 1000 top influential people in 2008 and 2009. Koy returned to international development in 2010, becoming CEO of Children in Crisis. In that time he has also been a trustee of Bond (the International Development Network).
